This recipe really annoyed me. It is not clear from the recipe that you first make a pot of chilli and then take only half of the pot to make 8 burgers. The quantity of the recipe is huge! If you have two people with a healthy appetite they will only eat two burgers a piece, so you have 2 meals worth of burgers and then two more meals of veggie chilli. No this recipe is way out there in quantity.
It also introduces another item not easy to get hold on on the UK – masa harina. I have cooked with it once before but that was mail order and by the time I say it in the recipe I already had a pot of chilli. So I substituted fine cornmeal. They turned out OK, a little grainy. The flavour was not very chilli like, a little disappointing.
